India extends $4.5 billion line of credit to Bangladesh
India and Bangladesh signed a slew of agreements on Saturday, including a $4.5 billion concessionary line of credit from India for development projects in Bangladesh, as the South Asian neighbors try to deepen their ties.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart, Sheikh Hasina, held wide-ranging talks in New Delhi, exchanging views on defense, regional security and cooperation in combating international terrorism.

Japan, India sign agreement on civil nuclear power
Japan signed a pact Friday in which it agreed to sell India civil nuclear power equipment and technology,
as the Japanese nuclear industry seeks markets overseas because of
shrinking business at home since the 2011 Fukushima disaster.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, also agreed during talks to advance business and security cooperation.

India, Britain talk trade and investment during May's visit
British Prime Minister Theresa May and her Indian counterpart, Narendra
Modi, held talks Monday aimed at deepening ties between their countries
and boosting trade and investment as the U.K. prepares to leave the
European Union.
May arrived in New Delhi late Sunday on her first trip outside of Europe since she became prime minister in July. She was accompanied by trade officials and a large business delegation consisting predominantly of small and medium-sized businesses.

Modi to Congress: India, US can anchor stability in Asia
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi told the U.S. Congress on Wednesday
that the world's two largest democracies can anchor stability and
prosperity from the Indian Ocean to the Pacific in an aspirational
speech that glossed over continuing divisions in the relationship.
Modi, who has ushered in closer bilateral ties since taking power two years ago, said that India and the U.S. have overcome "the hesitations of history" and called for ever-stronger economic and defense links between the two countries.

Obama meets Indian PM, seeks implementation of climate pact
India will try to join a climate change deal within this year, the Obama administration said Tuesday, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi met President Barack Obama at the White House and the two leaders played up their efforts to cooperate on issues of global concern.
Stressing their "strong bonds," Obama said the world's two largest democracies had "joined forces" to bring about the landmark climate agreement that was reached in Paris last December.

Sri Lankan leader begins 2nd visit to India in 17 months
Sri Lanka's leader began his second state visit to India in 17 months
Friday in a trip that underscores his island nation's delicate efforts
to balance relations with regional superpowers India and China.
President Maithripala Sirisena was slated to join Prime Minister Narendra Modi for dinner after arriving during the day from Britain. On Saturday, the two men plan to participate in Kumbh Mela, a Hindu religious ritual of plunging into a river believed wash away sins.

Prince Harry spends night in a Nepali village home
Britain's Prince Harry stayed at the village home of a former
Nepalese Gurkha soldier who had served in the British army Monday as the
prince continues his tour of the Himalayan nation.
The prince flew to the Leurani village, northwest of the capital Kathmandu, Monday where he spend time with the villagers dancing and later feasting with the family of Mangali Tamang, 86-year-old widow of a former soldier.

French President Francois Hollande began a three-day visit to India on
Sunday that could push a multibillion-dollar deal for combat airplanes
and closer cooperation on counterterrorism and clean energy.

India's Modi arrives in Pakistan on first visit as premier
India's Narendra Modi made a surprise visit to Pakistan
on Friday, his first such trip as prime minister to this Islamic nation
that has been India's long-standing archrival in the region.
The previously unannounced visit is a potential sign of thawing relations between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. The two heads of government also had an unscheduled meeting at the Paris climate change talks earlier this month.
Since gaining independence from Britain in 1947, India and Pakistan have fought three wars, two of them over Kashmir, the Himalayan region that both countries claim.

Russia's Putin hosts Indian PM for talks on defense, energy
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday hosted Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for talks that focused on defense, nuclear and energy ties.
Speaking at the start of their meeting in the Kremlin, Modi lauded Russia for being "a reliable friend" who has "always stood by us."
Russia and India have shared close ties since Cold War times, when Moscow was a key ally and the main arms supplier to New Delhi.
