Hate-crime charges filed in attack on mentally disabled man

This image posted on the Chicago Police Department's Twitter page shows a frame from a video that was broadcast live on Facebook in which a man is assaulted. The video shows the man with his mouth taped shut as a woman and other people cut off his shirt and hair with a knife, and someone pushes his head with his or her foot. Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said Wednesday that the victim has mental health challenges, and he called the video "sickening."
Four black people were charged with hate crimes Thursday in connection with a video broadcast live on Facebook that showed a mentally disabled white man being beaten and taunted, threatened with a knife and forced to drink from a toilet.
The assault went on for hours, until Chicago police found the disoriented victim walking along a street, authorities said.

Coldplay's latest video criticized for portrayal of India

British rock band Coldplay's latest music video has triggered a debate in India over its portrayal of the country with critics accusing its producers of showing stereotypical images of India with Hindu holy men, peacocks and colorful festivals.
Coldplay featured Beyonce in their Super Bowl half-time show Sunday, but they didn't perform their new collaboration, "Hymn for the Weekend."

China reprimands online companies for spread of sex video

Sex may sell, but a steamy video purportedly taken inside a Uniqlo fitting room in Beijing is giving the clothing retailer some uncomfortable attention.
Online searches for the Japanese clothing brand soared this week after the viral spread of the video apparently showing a young couple having sex in the Chinese capital's flagship store.

A Japanese politician who was seen sobbing over dubious spending in a video that went viral resigned Friday.
The local legislative assembly accepted the resignation of Ryutaro Nonomura, but also decided to pursue criminal charges against him.
Nonomura, 47, a Hyogo prefectural assemblyman, burst into tears and screamed nonsensical phrases when he was asked at a news conference last week about the number of trips he took to a hot springs at taxpayers' expense.
Calls for his resignation had grown. Nonomura visited the hot springs 106 times last year, using public money and reporting it as political activity.
